Hello, folks! I'm been lurking for about a month or so and I must say that I absolutely love these boards. You could go mad trying to read through the sheer amount of info stored on these boards. That said, this is my first post here, so please be gentle.
With that out the way, I'm looking to get into cast iron cooking and I was wondering if I could use flax seed oil that has gone bad to season cast iron cookware. Not using it to cook or anything like that, just the direct oven method. I ask this because it is my understanding that flax seed oil isn't exactly good eats or even a good cooing oil, so I'll only be interested in using the stuff for seasoning. With such a low amount that I'd be using, I'd imagine that it's likely that a bottle of flax seed oil would go bad long before I could go through it.
Also, it would be nice to be able to just throw the stuff in the pantry in an air-tight jar or something instead of taking up variable fridge space.
