Many of the residents of the Lower Haight have been wondering if we can support three Indian restaurants and, if not, who will be the loser. Most of us assumed it would be Raja.
Naan & Chutney has been packed or well-populated every time I've looked so they are doing well.
Indian Oven still has big globs tourists and non-residents clogging the sidewalk outside so they must be doing ok.
Raja still has its small contingent of regulars but they can't be doing so good. Then this week they stuck back - per a sign in their window Raja now has pizza on the menu! Yes, they've returned to their roots. For those of you that don't know Raja was opened by the Zante Pizza and Indian Food guys as their "upscale"(?!) restaurant. Anyway, I haven't tried the pizza yet or even looked closely at their offerings.
Only time will tell if it gives them the edge in the Lower Haight Indian restaurant saga - perhaps even more will move in and we'll get our own catchy name a la Tandoorloin...
