Quan Pho Viet recently opened on Ocean Avenue in the space formerly occupied by Ocean Cafe after an extensive remodel. It is a sister restaurant to the northern style Vietnamese restaurant Quan Bac on Geary and has a nearly identical menu, including the notorious Pho Bo Ngau Pin Dac Biet -- combination beef noodle soup with bull "pudendum."
I stopped by the other day for the combination beef pho and they didn't seem to have it quite together yet Although the ingredients in my soup seemed of high quality, it came to me with the broth less than piping hot and there seemed to be too low a noodles-to-broth ratio, compared to their sister location's offerings.
Its design and layout reflects Quan Bac, and such it is a little fancier and pricier than you'd expect in the neighborhood, with pho running $7.50-$7.95 for regular and $7.95-$8.95 for large bowls.
