With the recent passing of the owner of the Carnegie Deli, I thought it would be timely to poll Chowhounders as to which deli/ restaurant makes the best corned beef sandwich. Pastrami is another story.
For my 2cents, I like the dark horse SARGE'S. Moist, lean but with a little fat for flavor, sliced not too t hin or thick served on a nice fresh rye bread. Their coleslaw is the crowning jewel for me. I like my corned beef sandwich with cole slaw and russian--- some times known as a "special". My second place pick is Berger's. A smaller, but still substantial sandwich than Sarge's and almost as tasty.
