Paid my first visit last night to Q'ori, the new Mediterranean place on the corner of 5th Ave. and Union. They're still in tapas-only mode (the full menu will be available starting next week), and for the most part I liked what I saw and tasted. Octopus salad was great, and stuffed mussels (with chopped tomato, onion, pine nuts, and a light vinaigrette) were sensational. Not really sure why they're charging $3 for a small plate of salted almonds, but I have a feeling that won't stay on the tapas menu very long.
I ended up chatting with the manager, who gave me a copy of the entree menu, which is promising: salt cod and crabcake with a corn relish; grilled tuna and Portuguese clams; grilled pork chop with angelhair carbonara in a port wine reduction; etc.
Music was a bit too loud, but otherwise the place was very pleasant. All very encouraging.
