last nite, on the recs from this board, went to 'pylos' in the space and with the chef from 'it's greek to me (which i enjoyed.) what a difference! the space has been de-greek-dinerized, replacing the tacky tablecloths and "happy greek lady by the water" pictures distributed by the gyros company with, well, no pictures, nice banquets, nice tables (no tablecloths!) fun terra cotta pots hung from the ceiling hide the lighting--it's quite elegant and a 180 switch.
the food, which didn't need a complete makeover, remained top notch, going a little more upscale. i had a three types of filo wrapped appetizer to start, one cheese (yum) one mushroom (eh) and one spicy goat (yum yum) and my bf had an eggplant/garlick/onion dip/spread that was from the old place and very good.
for entree i had a clay baked pork medallions in mushroom and wine sauce--very tender and good and my bf had a clay baked chicken, which i did not taste (but i have the leftovers for lunch today...) but which he liked a lot.
with a bottle of that swill, retzini (i hate the stuff, but my bf must have it) for 23$ and two greek coffees (eh) the bill came to 95$, which includes tip.
all in all a very good value, really nice space, cute colin farell looking waiter--will def go back!
