pumpkin pancakes in SF

O.K., so the pancake bug bit me this morning and I headed to Kate's Kitchen (yea yea yea, I know too much baking soda/powder) for their standard cornmeal cakes. On the specials board they listed as one of their pancake toppings, pumpkin! The waiter said these were the best in the house and offered that the pumpkin was in fact not a topping, but in the batter. I ordered a short stack (around $7).

The 2 plate sized cakes came out perfectly griddled (cooked through but not crispy, airy but not delicate) with a light sprinking of powdered sugar, a hefty dollop of butter and a side of maple syrup. The pumpkin flavor was detectable but not overpowering and not hidden by cinnamon or other traditional spices. Yum, so good!
