You KNEW I had to have this, right?
As a Providence die-hard and a dessert-obsessed freak, I really had no choice. For those who don't know, Adrian R. Vasquez, the restaurant's Pastry Chef, has put together an absolutely divine 5 course tasting menu. Drew, my favorite Sommelier, has one-upped this with wine pairings. Prices are a cool $30 for the desserts, $50 for these plus vino. Considering the ala carte goodies are around $12 each, this is quite a bargain.
It is so refreshing to dive into the sweet-side of experimentation. I'm sick of creme brulee. There, I said it. Adrian's throwing in some funky ingredients, but it works in a big way. I'd love to hear other Chow's opinions. Which means you have to save room for dessert already :) Better yet, do what I did - skip the savory and just go in for the good stuff.
My favorite of the 7 courses he served us was a Blackberry and Polenta Streusal with Corn Ice Cream. Oh.My.GOD this flavor combo kicked my ass. I think Adrian's strong point, above all else, are his ice creams. The Ras el Hanout (Moroccan-spiced) is my favorite, but this dish itself rises above. Not to mention the wine pairing.
