It is not without some trepidation that I reopen the topic of Press 195 on 5th, given what fierce feelings past such postings have stirred up. But I am in a brave mood, so:
I had dinner there with a friend on Tuesday and generally enjoyed it. The sandwiches were deeply satisfying, if not earthshattering. Great ciabatta bread, crunchy but not too hard. My sandwich was sopressata and fresh mozz with roasted pepper and garlic spread. Basic, maybe, but it was well done -- melty inside, crispy outside, good amount of garlicky flavor, well-balanced. We started with an apple-ish salad which just missed -- crisp apples, blue cheese and hazlenuts were good, but it was topped with shaved carrots and a too-tangy dressing made with hard cider that seemed like a good idea but didn't make it in my opinion.
Generally, I liked the place. A nice vibe; if it was disorganized they seem to have pulled it together. There is a bit of a can-do, intramural sports team flavor to the endeavor, but I don't mind. It's a nice energy, I think, of people trying to make something that they care about work.
