Was there last night, probably my 5th time there. Sushi ya recognised me even though I hadn't been in a long while and made me feel welcome from the off and we chatted about my recent trip to Japan.
Sat at the counter, had omakase, 9 pieces in total - iwashi (sardine), sayori (needlefish/halfbeak), madai (snapper), kinmedai (red snapper), shima-aji (amberjack), hamachi (yellowtail), kanpachi (yellowjack), chu-toro (medium fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin). Washed this down with a glass of $15 sake. Bill came to $63 with tax and tip.
Everything delicious and adeptly crafted, really only a very fractional notch below Ushiwakamaru and Yasuda, my Manhattan favourites. And no problems getting a space, very casual and relaxed atmosphere, nice waitstaff, yet more reasons for commending it.
