Two of us decided to take a short drive to Cecil County's Portside Grill, located on the Susquehanna River. I have heard good things about it in the past & was eager to check it out. Big mistake.
First the good: The waitress was nice & her timing was good. But the food was bad & i would expect her to notice & acknowledge our disappointment. The view of the water was pretty, but the sun glare was blinding for most of our meal. Now the bad:
First of all, we walked in and saw only one other party. That should have been a hint right there. But it was an off time (3:00 - but it was Saturday!) so we sat down. Being good Marylanders, we ordered MD crab soup, a broiled crabcake & a crab toast appetizer.
The soup came first. It had a lot of stuff in it, I'll give it that. But the crabmeat was stringy & grey. Not much spice, not how I like it. And it was lukewarm.
Then our salads. Mostly iceberg with one small slice of tomato & cucumber. Then the bread, crusty rolls - OK, but almost stale.
Then the crabcake. Twelve dollars. Includes french fries. The fries were good & hot. The crabcake was the size of a golf ball. Totally blackened on the top & bottom. And 90% filler. Tiny flakes of that same grey meat. I hate to waste the money, but even with that in my mind I couldn't even finish the tiny thing because it tasted sooooo bad.
I don't know why or how this place has made a name for itself. Maybe I was wrong & it is just a place for boaters to drink.
