I'd read about the famous "pork pump" at Lake Spring for years, and, spurred on by a NewTimes article, last night finally made the journey out to Monterey Park.
Ordered the Jade Shrimp, Crispy Duck and Pork Pump.
Jade Shrimp were juicy and plump - delicious.
Crispy Duck was crispy, if a bit dry. Also, had a smokey flavor I wasn't crazy about. Overall, a decent version of this dish.
Pork Pump - Really disappointing. Basically, it tastes like a pork roast you might make at home. While the pork itself is moist and tender, the sauce and spices are very bland. It didn't even taste chinese. I really wanted to love it, but found it sort of boring. The pork itself, btw, is not fatty at all - its the sauce and juices that are.
I think I like my chinese food a little spicier.
