let me update on Tindo. Unless I somehow missed the address, Tindo
is now closed and in its place is a new restaurant serving Fu Chow
food. I had a great dinner there of Fu Chow dumplings, which are
tiny balls of meat (pork I think) wrapped in big, very thin, and
almost transparent sheet of dough. The result is beautiful, like
large finned, half transparent gold fish swimming in good soup.
A noodle soup dish with taro and duck wasn't great, maybe because it
tasted of Taro.
A fabulously named Chrysanthemum Fish Squirrel Style was a fried fish
with red sauce slightly sweet and slightly hot. It was quite good
and very beautiful. I won't try to describe it, it should be seen.
The food was good though not outstanding, there are a lot of unusual
options on the menu, the dishes I had were also unusually beautiful,
something I don't usually care for much, but which impressed here.
The waitresses spoke no English past TEA and CHEQUE but were very
kind and obviously excited about someone choosing some of the more
unusual options. And the prices were ridiculous, 15$ for these three
dishes. I always thought prices in Chinese restaurants were an
economic mystery that somehow contradicts all traditional economic
theory. How they manage to serve a beautifully prepared and generous
fish dish for what a bottle of water costs in other resturants I
shall never understand.
