With all the pizza talk going on over the last week or so I just had to go out and grab a pie. I had my teen-aged nephew in tow, so I focused on a simple pizzeria.
We both really enjoyed the pizza here. We went to the original location on Grant. Since I love both a thin Roman crust served with a whole olive in the middle and red pepper oil on the side, and the blackened blisters of a NYC brick oven, I was a little apprehensive about their crust which some reviews described as thick, chewy, and or doughy.
Our sausage, artichoke and black olive pie was delicious. The sauce was flavorful, redolent with italian herbs and spices, one of the tastier pizza red sauces in memory. The italian sausage, excellent. Abundance of cheese, of which unfortunately, I cannot determine the blend. The crust was crunchy on the outside, so it was like a well baked bread, almost the pizza's best feature. This pizza is not to be confused with a first course. All in all a really tasty pizza in a fun, away from the neon cafes, North Beach location.
Celebrate pizza diversity.
