Had lunch today at the new offshoot of Lucca, now where Basil Prospero used to be.
It just opened a few days ago so the space is still a bit rough, but it has a great feel and I loved the chalkboard wall where everything was written.
We had a group of 9 and all got different pizzas to try the entire menu. You order at the counter, get a number, and then get the food delivered, which was speedy, and we weren't the only ones dining.
The price is great - $8.75 for a nice personal pizza (about the size of a dinner plate) and a side salad. I had the spring greens which were fresh and well dressed. Simple and tasty. The romaine had a caesar-type dressing and was also good.
I tried the margherita, potato blanco, french fries & vienna, and four cheese pizzas. The margherita was good, but needed more basil. The potato blanco was screaming for salt, herbs, and just more flavor. Oddly enough, we liked the french fry/vienna sausage pizza the most. It was salty and smoky and great. The crust and sauce were great for all the pizzas but we all agreed they all needed more salt, more olive oil, and just more flavor/love to the toppings. One of our diners also got a calzone and he said it was good, but needed more basil and more sauce.
There was a nice selection of sodas, limonata, bottled beers, and a few gelatos (pistachio, chocolate, banana, mmmm). Right now they're open for lunch daily and dinner Fri/Sat.
I'm sure after a few weeks the kinks will be worked out and the recipes will be developed. We'll definitely be back regardless because it obviously has tons of potential. Thumbs up!
