The best pie I've ever had (in Orlando or anywhere else) -- Se7en Bites

My wife and I enjoyed another great lunch at Pom Pom's Teahouse and Sandwicheria on Bumby this weekend. They always have creative and delicious pressed sandwiches on great bread, good salads, interesting flavored teas, and a side order of spicy smoked turkey macaroni and cheese that I could eat by the bucketful, but this time they really outdid themselves.

Pom Pom's always carries beautiful cupcakes by the Blue Bird Bake Shop, another Orlando favorite located in Audobon Park. But on our most recent visit, they had a small variety of mini pies from a new bakery I had never heard of before, Se7en Bites. There was a dark chocolate pie with whipped cream on the top, a mulled wine and caramel apple pie that looked and sounded really good, and the one we shared, a chocolate pecan and sea salt caramel pie.

AND IT WAS THE BEST PIE WE'VE EVER HAD, no joke, no exaggeration! I don't do so well with nuts (go ahead and laugh), but it was delicious and worth any risks. The crust was without a doubt the greatest pie crust I've ever had. It was rich and flaky and buttery and everything pie crust ought to be. We bought one for my in-laws, who later agreed that it was the best pie they had ever had, too. I would kill to try a fruit pie in that same perfect crust.

The label on the little pie box had a phone number for Se7en Bites (that I regret not getting), but no e-mail address or website information. I Googled various combinations of Se7en/Seven/7 Bites, but there just isn't anything out there yet, aside from a brief mention on Pom Pom's Facebook page on October 3rd: "Now serving Se7en Bites by Trina Gregory mini pies!!! Yum!!!"

"Yum!!!" is an understatement. I can't gush about this pie enough. Orlando people, you owe it to yourselves to try them! And Ms. Gregory, whoever and wherever you are, get a Facebook or a blog and start marketing yourself, because you have a SUPERIOR product.
