I was lucky enough to visit Phoenix last week, and had some great eats, as a result of your rec’s. Just wanted to say THANKS :-)
Breakfast on The Farm at South Mountain. My fav’. Fantastic place for kids. Healthy food. Benedict and everything. (Aside: Speaking of kid-friendly, The Children’s “Museum” of Phoenix is AWESOME for fun exercise)
Prime rib at The Stockyards. While they seemingly don’t have a proprietary beef source and artfully age the meat and all that fancy Chicago stuff, I still say, “they nailed it.” Everything else about the restaurant was generally okay/good (bbq ribs were bad), but since I went for the prime rib, nothing else mattered to me and I left thoroughly happy. I do think it is 20% overpriced, but I was on vacation so, “what the heck. “
America’s Taco Shop. Yes! Sure wish Detroit had this casual beer ‘n al pastor place.
Shreiners Sausage Shop. Great selection. I was expecting a more authentic “German” feel to the offerings, but I left happy, nevertheless.
China Magic. Loved watching noodles being pulled. Will go back until I’ve tried every noodle style. Sure, the noodles’ soups or sauces aren’t profoundly extraordinary, but at least they’d be recognizable if served in China, which is more than can be said about most Chinese restaurant food in the USA.
Chompies. Okay, some of you warned me about this belly-stuffer place. And, yes, it is lame. Fake “deli.” Photos on the wall of NYC cityscapes can’t help the actual food quality. The owners can at least be proud of all the cash they’re raking in, and I’m sure they are.
Phoenix Downtown Farmers Market, Wednesday afternoon version. In its infant stage, but a lot of beautiful (supposedly local organic) food is packed onto a small number of tables. Local ranchers and hog/poultry farmers need to start selling at this market. Very good experience. Adjacent café was a bonus. This downtown area of Phoenix FINALLY is coming around for real. In seven years, it will be super cool and bustling.
Y’all are the best, you lucky dawgs.
