Didn't do much eating out, but did get a chance to visit two hound-recommended restaurants during a recent vacation in the Catskills. Sweet Sue's in Phoenicia was delicious and incredibly filling. I had the Blue Monkey pancakes -- fluffy, tasty and full of yummy little blueberries and piping hot bananas. I would get just blueberry ones next time. I got a stack of two pancakes which was way too much food. Husband had the pecan crusted french toast. Tasted like a toasted-nut covered doughnut. Decadent and delicious. Cute place, great service, big mugs of coffee. Just the thing on a rainy Saturday morning.
Had dinner at the Bear Cafe just outside of Woodstock on Rt 212 -- sat at the bar enjoying the air conditioning and a view of the stream babbling by outside. Wasn't terribly hungry, so I got an appetizer sized portion of ravioli with homemade cheese, herbs, argula and raddichio. Really good, a nice balance of flavors, not too garlicky, oily, etc. Husband had the lobster and crab quesadilla which he is still raving about. Several of the other guys at the bar were also ordering this. We loved this place, casual but elegant, well-prepared food, beautiful setting. They also have a big outdoor seating area which would be nice on a cooler, less buggy evening. Hope to get back someday.
