Just noticed that Pho Hiep Hoa, a new Vietnamese restaurant, has opened in downtown Silver Spring. I got their carryout menu and it looks interesting: prices are reasonable (about $8-10 for a dinner entree) and it has a wide range of dishes. In addition to pho, it has a lemon beef salad, a range of curries (including turkey!), a Vietnamese beef stew, and some interesting drinks -- tapioca milk shake and salty plum with club soda.
Anybody been yet? Thinking about getting some takeout tomorrow.
As an aside, I have found the restaurants in the newly redeveloped downtown Silver Spring to be pretty middle of the road. While some are better than others and offer delicious individual dishes, there's not one place that would attract chowhounds. Adega has good salads and sandwiches, Austin Grill has good margaritas and solid Tex-Mex (not so great service, though), and the kids like Potbelly and Noodles & Co. Nothing great, though. I wonder if high-rent prices drive away some ethnic eateries and more adventurous restaurants that might otherwise have come in.
