drank about 15 espressos in the time in boston.
ive found that the pete's in lexingotn does a more consistent job with espresso than the one in cambridge. i got quite a few lousy ones, but they were friendly enough to remake them. i found that in general, their moka-java is their best espresso bland, and that they way to order it is get a double, but have them make it in an espresso cup, not a cappucino cup, where its too much and its overextracted. it took a little work to get them used to this. the first time i got it this way they got annoyed at me. but fewer problems thereafter...
in general, i find pete's coffees roasted a little too dark for me for regular coffee, but good for espresso. its just that the staff is not trained for real espresso i think, just like everywhere else....a few of them are good at it though.
there was an article on peets and jerry badlwin in the globe..a bit of a PR piece...he says theyre not in the drink business, and they provide as few seats as they can. In cambridge, he said, "people think they have a constitutional, if not congenital, right to buy a cup of coffee and sit here and study all day" heheh. i got a laugh out of the whole thing.
