Wonderful dinner tonight at Peter Luger.
Jam-packed as usual, but we had reserved 6 weeks ago, and only waited 10 minutes for out table to be ready.
I don't understand the comments about surly service. Everyone was cordial, helpful and downright nice, as usual.
The giant beefsteak tomatoes are gorgeous at this time of year. Highly recommend as a starter. The rolls were especially good tonight. Crispy crusty and just onion-y enough.
The steak was perfect. To my Texan steak maven, the steak was excellent," as good as any anywhere". They indulged my request for well done without a snide remark or smirk.
The hash browns were crispy and perfection; the creamed spinach a little salty, but great with the steak.
We shared the most divine warm pecan pie "mitt schlag" and left happy happy.
The prices are fairly reasonable considering the outstanding quality of the beef and compared to other restaurants of similar quality.
Apropos of some other postings: this is NOT a place for vegetarians. The only main dish item on the menu is steak and lamb chops. They do list a fish of the day but no one seemed to know anything about it. The lunch menu is extraordinary. The 1/2 lb burger is $7.99! It has been is packed to the rafters every time we have gone for lunch.
Has anyone tried the bacon appetizer? People at the next table had a platter of it for 6 and it looked and smelled divine.
The testosterone level here runs really high , so inviting a vegetarian to Peter Luger just doesn't seem quite fair.
