The 84th St. outpost of Flor De Mayo is gingerly putting its foot into the Peruvian ring. According to the manager, every day, the restaurant will be rotating some Peruvian specialties. When I went last Friday, the Peruvian appetizers were a ceviche and a shrimp soup, and the entrees typical peasant fare, including lomo saltado.
I was there for the chicken, but I did try the shrimp soup with mixed results. The broth was terrific, but the 2 giant shrimp, still in the shells, were inedible and obviously defrosted -- mushy and the opposite of tasty.
If patrons respond well, expect much more Peruvian fare at Flor De Mayo.
