Now that the weather's warming up, I headed out to Valley Stream to have an ice cream sundae at Itgen's. This has got to be one of the great eating experiences to be had on Long Island.
Pre-ice cream, I had a turkey/bacon sandwich. But what a sandwich! The turkey was in big chunks and was obviously from an actual roasted bird. A good turkey sandwich is almost impossible to find these days.
Then the ice cream. Itgens makes their own and it's very good. But it's the toppings that really stand out. Real live hot fudge that hardens when it hits the ice cream. Cream whipped in 5-quart Kitchen Aids sitting behind the counter. They make their own wet nuts!
Itgen's is at 211 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream. If you haven't been there, you're in for a treat.
