I just read the article in the Murky News and had to look in on this board.
I get to Vin, Vino, Wine a couple of times a month. If it is a Friday, I stop at Bistro Elan first, before it gets crazy. My favorites: the Foie Gras and Duck Confit. The current scallop presentation is great, too.
I also like Cafe Brioche, and Peking Duck if I want a duck fix. Where else can you get peking duck without ordering it ahead of time?
We have had some fabulous meals at Jon Sears' Dining Room in San Mateo.
Ditto for La Foret, especially the medallions of elk and the lobster in lime beurre blanc.
For dessert, I love the Concorde at Marche, although now that I have discovered how easy it is to make ganache, I tend to make my own chocolate desserts at home.
For burgers, the Red Barn on the Stanford campus, the Village Pub, Clarke's and Kirk's in that order.
I almost never order steak, salmon or chicken when eating out because I can do as well at home on the Weber. Once in a while I will make Bearnaise but most of the time I settle for a nice smoke flavor.
