Penang Lunch - the breakdown DFW

I decided to post this as a new thread since the Penang lunch thread was eons ago.

Sorry we missed you Kirk and John. Joe and his wife Marianne came as well as 10 other people on my side.

We had a lot of dishes:

Roti Canai - Indian bread with curry dipping sauce. A must for every trip to Penang!

Char Kwey Teow - Big fave on the table. WOk fried rice noodles with shrimp, squid, bean sprouts and egg. Its peppery and alittle spicy

Captains Noodles - it was ok. The consensus was that it was a bit bland actually.

Lamb Rendang - I think this was THE fave dish. Everybody raved about the spiced lamb that's simmered in a sauce till tender.

Ayam Pandan Goreng - fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves. it's an appetizer but it's huge. It's rubbed in a turmeric and few other spices

Stir fried Gai lan - chinese brocoli.

Penang Tofu - home made tofu with egg, chinese mushrooms and vegetables. this was Ok. Definitely not one of their specialties.

Sayur Lodeh - Vegetable curry - this was the third fave of the table. Eggplant, okra, jalapenos, tofu, tomatoes skin and beans in a brothy soupy curry. Watch out for the green jalapenos, they resemble okra or green bell peppers!

i hope i didn't miss anything. Total bill per person was about $13 including drinks, tax and tip. Pretty good ya?

I would also strongly recommend the Penang Lobak which is extremely authentic. The Eggplant with Salted fish in a hot pot. It's even better the next day. Curry whole Snapper - indian style curry with tomatoes, okra, beans. Lovely! Hainanese chicken.

If anyone has any questions abt malaysian food, I'm extremely familiar with the cuisine.
