Pelagos revisited

We went back to Pelagos (nee Dias, on W77th off Columbus) on Saturday night for the first time since opening night.

The food has improved considerably and our meal was better than any we ever had at Dias, a favorite of ours. The only objection was to their generosity. After we had ordered appetizers (heavenly octopus and and excellent Greek salad), they arrived with a complementary plate of fried smelts. Of course, we had to be gracious and ate every one of the delicious morsels. We shared a St. Pierre fish, cooked to perfection, and lemon potatoes. Already too much food, so we packed up the leftover fish for Jenny and Gus (the Katz family who live with the Goldbergs). Dick, of course, had to have coffee and baklava. I declined either. However, the server arrived at the table with a complementary dessert of fried dough balls with honey syrup, and I could not resist a couple. I definitely have to learn to make these.

They had just gotten their liquor license the day before, and only had wine by the glass. While we took advantage of this, I don't think we can say much yet about this part of the menu.

A definite winner on the UWS.
