i ventured into the new peet's coffee on ventura blvd in tarzana earlier this week. it has a modest exterior with the normal peet's coffee appointments on the interior. i was the only customer in the store and had the opportunity to talk with the staff a bit. business has been a little slow but they're expecting it to pick up.
but what really caught my eye was the pastry case. oh gosh, had i not just eaten a very full lunch, i would have tried one of everything. they had beautiful rustic chocolate croissants, dark, beautiful slices of carrot cake bread, and much more (i wish i could remember!). this was a far cry from the normal offering at 'bucks. i'm anxious to return once i'm in the area again.
curious, i asked them who supplied their pastries. answer: la brea bakery and la provence.
hmmmm. does that mean the nancy silverton-still owned shop on la brea next to campanile or the irish-owned conglomerate is now producing croissants and the like? i assume it's the la brea shop (and not the conglomerate) that's selling at the weds santa monica market now.
and what is la provence? does anyone have any information? if they had a retail front, i'd love to visit.
