Peace Pool -- new Cantonese in Murray Hill

Last night I went to Peace Pool a new Cantonese (Chinese) restaurant in Murray hill on Lexington Ave between 34th and 33rd. I was overall very impressed and think it makes a welcome addition to the Murray Hill dining landscape which was lacking in the Chinese department (Both Evergreens and to a lesser extent wu liang ye, are in my opinion great restaurants but on the periphery of Murray hill/Kip’s bay). My girlfriend and I had a dish of shrimp in an egg white sauce with green peas that was very good. We also had a vegetable dish cooked with Chinese sausage and flavored with ham. Very very tasty. Out third dish was a duck dish that, while tasty, I was not as impressed with. The duck was very good but the dish itself was very busy with a lot of items in it (I may be over-critical from my time in China). In any case I found it to be as good as Pings if not better. It is very reasonably priced. They also have hot pots but you have to call ahead.

I should add that I feel very sympathetic for them -- it looks like they invested a lot in renovating the restaurant but don’t seem to be getting a lot of customers (I guess as a result of an odd location and lack of advertising?). Anyway I just would hate to see them fail - and want to encourage the expansion of quality/authentic Chinese food into midtown.
