PDX - Best Steakhouse

Hi there 'hounds,

It is the partner's b-day in about 2 weeks. We have gone back and forth about plans - mostly of the "should we stay or should we go" variety - and we have decided to stay in PDX for the b-day itself and go to the coast the following weekend. I'll ask about recs. at the coast in another post.

For the stay in town part, I want to take her out for the best steak in town that isn't prepared in our house. Usually, our budget is tight and we don't get to eat at the high-end places until our rich friends visit, so we splurge on steak to cook at home. However, it is her 55th b-day and a special occasion and she loves her a good steak.

Where should we go? Please also tell me what the best other things to order are at the places you recommend (good creamed spinach, etc.).

In addition, it is my experience that some steakhouses might, for example, specialize in porterhouse, while others might feature filet mignon (like in NYC where I'm originally from, IMHO, Peter Luger's makes the best porterhouse, but for filet, the Old Homestead gives Luger's a run for it's money - and then there are the great Argentinian places that do an awesome hangar steak). Please let me know what the best cut of steak is at the place you name, if they have a specialty.

Of course, if you think the best steak in PDX is not found in a steakhouse, but in another type of restaurant - by all means, let's hear about it!
