[PDX] Ken's Lunch: Here today, gone tomorrow...

Went to Ken's Place for lunch today. Didn't even realize they served lunch. Apparently they started in September. Well, next Friday (not tomorrow, but next week) will be their last lunch.

Too bad, too. It's one of the best lunch deals in town, imo. Their burger (with chips), eg, is only $6.75. It has a half pound of beef cooked to your liking dripping with cheese, on a nice bun. Big slices of bacon $1 extra. Kettle chips on the side. (Roasted potatoes at dinner.)

The Caesar was only $4.75 without chicken and was gigantic. I'm not sure it was even smaller than their dinner version.

Got some of the best chili I've had in town. Not quite old school Texas style like LOW's when they served up their brisket chili. Instead this had chunks of stew meat in a nice gravy along with hominy. It was topped with sour cream. $6.50.

My wife and I split all this and were bloated afterwards. And of course, everything was quite good. (I know there's been a lot of talk about Cafe Castagna recently, but I actually think Ken's is a little better on the basics -- not desserts, though -- and at better prices and only a block away.)

So I highly recommend you get in to Ken's for lunch before they stop service. I wish he'd get some good signage, maybe they would have done better for lunch.
