Yo Pat's Insiders, can anyone explain the new steak- skimping policy at sacred Pat's Steaks? I'm a NY 'hound and Pat's veteran in exile since leaving college on the Main Line, when five "Wiz Withs" per week - even in blizzards - was typical. You know how it is. If there was a Pat's scratch 'n sniff sticker, it would be on all of my pillows.
However, I was disappointed during my recent pilgrimage to Passayunk and Wharton St's to taste a steak-starved let-down with wimpy onions unlike their hearty predecessors under a weak teaspoon of 'Wiz. Don't even ask me about the blasphemous, Geno's-esque bread. 6 of these were downed over 2 nights, so it's not the case of one fluke runt steak. It was like a cheesesteak from Afghanistan.
And what's the deal with the classic yellow lights that used to illuminate the beloved counter where Rocky once hungrily stood. Rocky would be furious.
Let me be clear, Pat's is still THE BEST of Philly in my book, but the downsize that weekend was heartbreaking. Please tell me it was some twisted experiment that weekend. Seems that the Olivieris still own and operate the joint, so what gives? Can someone please prove my gastronomic instincts correct and explain when and why this "Wiz With" cutback occurred?
