I realize this has been discussed a bit in years past, but I thought it should be reiterated: Patisserie Claude, on West 4th near Christopher makes the best damned croissants in New York. The dense, buttery, flaky masterpiece this morning, flavored gently with almond and apricot and pulled straight from the oven by Claude himself, was so good that grimy 4th Street suddenly seemed as bright and cheerful as the set of an old MGM musical, and I practically danced the next three blocks to the subway station.
