Park Slope tamales are back -- 4th Ave & 9th Street

Well, I left home without breakfast today, and what to my wondering eyes should appear outside the check cashing place at the corner of 4th Ave and 9th Street but a table with a square cooler and a round cooler and an amiable Hispanic man standing watch.

"Tamales?"
"Yes"
"What kind?"
"Cheese and meat"
"Pork or chicken?"
"Pork"
"One cheese, one pork"
$2.

SCORE! In my admittedly less than educated opinion I found them to be pretty good. Could have been just a hair more moist, but I was hardly complaining having made a surprise discovery of my favorite morning treat on an empty stomach and a train ride to work ahead.

I had seen the police talking to the woman who used to sell tamales on the same corner in front of the church and I figured that they had run her off, so I asked the guy if he had all his permits and if he planned on being around in the future. He said he did have a license, and was planning on coming back. I sure hope he does....
