I wanted to thank those who posed for the great suggestion to go to Dome du Marais, which was a great choice for me. We had a great dinner, two bottles of decent wine and for five of us it was about 375 euros. I had excellent sea scallops, and a very interesting hare with foie gras on the 48 euro menu.
We went to La Ferrandaise in the 6th, which is not upscale in the least. The food was top notch, and not expensive (30 euros for three courses). The staff seemed short one person, and was very slow, but they were friendly. One comment, the tables in the upstairs room and the basement are wretched, and I refused to be seated there. When you book, you need to request the front room (and then dont speak in booming English once you are seated).
I had a good but non-exciting meal at Jacques Cagna's seccond level restaurant at my mother's insistence. I am not impressed with this place or his other roast chicken place. The petrale sole was very good though.
We had book for 5 at Mon Vieil Ami on Ile St Louis, and we showed up and were told they only had a table for 2. The host did not apologize and was quite rude. Ultimately I convinced him to seat 4 of us at the round two-top by the door, and I went elsewhere. MY family reported a very good meal after the initial screw-up. We found our fax confirmation at home - and indeed we had booked for 5.
