pretty good dinner (575 hudson st (nr bank) 646/638-2900) last night
apps: I tried three. oxtail ravioli, foie gras with potato and lardon, and sauteed scallops. First 2 very good. The last was the weakest,scallops a little greasy, and the sauce they sat on was non-descript.
mains: I tried three: 2 of us had sweetbreads, quite thickly cut, but melt in your mouth good, with thin-ish reduction and some greens (mashed pots on side-good, tho not the creamiest pots Ive had); boeuf bourguignon (Ill have this when I go back), lovely, with bacon and pearl onions, yummy gravy; duck, crispy skin and tender.
(i leave the amuse bouche till last: cooked mussels of mixed quality, i'd rather forget them)
Bots of sancerre and a decent 95 red from Washington state --both around $30 each, good.
Grimes review last month led me to believe that the banquettes would be pure torture. Not so. Maybe theyve been upholstered. the chairs semmed more uncomfortable, too high for tables. He described this as a quiet place. its buzzing now.
