I have tried the baguettes, whole grain breads, croissants and pastries at Pain du Jour, PDJ, on Pico near Lincoln. Everything has been outstanding, and I recommend PDJ anytime someone asks about good French style baked goods.
I recently recommended their croisants to a friend who was throwing a 70 th birthday party for her Dad. Afterwards I inquired if she liked them and she said they were awful, not flakey at all AND nobody ate them...I felt pretty bad, I mean even accounting for tastes, its terrible when you give something glowing praises and then people are disappointed. In this case my friend is even more of an experienced palate than myself, she and her family spent 2 weeks in Paris last summer, so her taste comparison for French croissants is more recent than mine.
So , has anyone else tried PDJ croissants recently...any feedback? Is this time for the dreaded Down Hill Alert??? I have been trying to stick to a no carb thing but will have to break it for a taste test!!
