Ozu -- Amsterdam and 88th

Went for the first time to Ozu last night, a natural foods restaurant on Amsterdam near 88th street. I have to admit I'm not usually to be found in this type of place, but even my over-indulged palate enjoyed it.

The food is plentiful and inexpensive. Had a grilled salmon filet with pesto sauce that was very good. The fish was cooked just right and the pesto had just the right mix of greens and oil. The miso soup was also good, with large pieces of wheat tofu and an excellent flavor.

The people I was eating with had grilled noodles, some kind of large health salad, and another salmon dish. All were good and reasonably priced ($8 to $12.50).

Service was fine. The only complaint was that there were no seat cushions and the chairs have very short backs, which means you can't lean back.

A good place to try for tasty and inexpensive health food if you're in the neighborhood.
