Went to Oyamel for dinner on Saturday night.
The highlights were definately the Papillon cocktail and the fried plantains with the green dipping sauce.
Chayote salad with hibiscus, fresh cheese & peanuts
Fresh corn kernels with epazote,
cotija cheese and crema Mexicana
Mushroom and cheese enchiladas with salsa de chile Guajillo
Fried Tilapia Chiapas style with a light tomato sauce,
Mexican salsa and hand made tortilla
Plantain fritters stuffed with beans served with coconut sauce
Purses of jicama with guacamole
The Corn dish - was not good, it kind of tasted like creamed corn out of a can. Not sure what I missed there. The Salmon ceviche was excellent.
Interesting to note that the last two dishes were not ordered but sent over my the GM who was making the rounds. We asked him what to order and he sent over a few tastes - however the tastes ended up on our check. We mentioned it as we were paying and they removed the charges. It was slightly annoying though to have to that happen.
There was a 10 minute wait on Saturday night at 7:30. We left around 10:30 and the place was fairly empty. I just wonder what the staying power will be in area like Crystal City - if this place was in the city it would have been packed.
All in all pretty good.
