I frequently dine at Osho Restaurant in Millbrae. My standard order is their Chirashi Sushi which I find good despite the fact that you get varying sizes/cuts of sashimi depending on who's the itamae. Sometimes, you can get a fat, triangular stub of hamachi or maguro (which annoys me), while at other times, you would get your standard quarter inch slice.
On a recent visit, I took a turn from my usual order and had their sashimi/chicken teriyaki combo. When I got my bowl of rice, it was not white...looked grayish and brown in color like poor quality, old rice. I thought it odd, but tried it. Sure enough, the rice tasted horrible! I returned it for another bowl, perhaps a different batch, but still, the rice quality was poor, and a tint of gray. Does anyone know what rice they use, whether or not they recently have changed their rice or their rice supplier. I must add that I am pretty picky when it comes to rice and was surprised how poor this rice tasted. I talked to a friend who also recently dined there, and he made the same comment without me having to broach the subject.
I'm sure they must use a different rice for their sushi as the chirashi sushi I usually have seems fine.
Anyone out there have this same experience with their regular rice?
