I finally got to try the Orange Squirrel in Bloomfield. I had been hearing so much about this restaurant that i have wanted to try to get there for some time now. For various reasons, I could not seem to get there. Well on Friday night I finally made it and I was not dissappointed. My daughter, son in law and I had a 7:30 reservation. We were seated promply upon arrival and the wonderful experience began.
We were served a chef's amus of a piece of shaved duck with a sprinkling of greens. The bitterness of the greens againt the sweetness of the duck was an incredible flavor balance. My son in law said he would like to have had 15 more of them.
We had mussels for our first course. They were spiced so nicely and melted in your mouth.
For our entrees my daughter had 4 perfectly cooked lamb chops, my son in law had the rib eye steak the looked like it came from a dinosour it was so big and I had the chicken pot pie. My daughter said I shouldn't have been allowed to order a pot pie, but when she saw and tasted my pot pie, she could understand why I ordered it. We had wilted spinach, the creamy polenta and mac and cheese as sides. Everything was beyond wonderful. The chef is very talented and uses an unique blend of flavors and spices. We were very pleased with all our selections.
Desserts were as well received. I had cheesecake - which was as good as my own homemade. My daughter and son in law had what looked like 3 little parfaits. One was rocky road, one strawberry shorthcake and the other was nutella. They were gone in a flash.
At the end of the meal we were each given a shot of homemade Bailley's. It was a perfect way to end the evening.
If you have a chance, make a reservation for the Orange Squirrel, you will truly enjoy!
