Restaurants & Bars

Boston Area

This is probably the oldest question ever, but here goes--fish, on the water, not very expensive? (have done some research already)

Friends in town from DC. They are easygoing foodies and we thought we would go for one of our Chowhound-favorite moderately priced places: Silvertone, Franklin, Grotto. However they surprise us by wanting something specific: lots of good seafood, preferably on the water.

Hmm, I said, and thought immediately of the Back Eddy in Westport, but the hour drive up and back, probably only to wait an hour for a table, seemed a shade daunting to them.

There's the Long Wharf Legal, but they have Legal in DC.

Combing of the Boston board archives suggests Cafe Intrigue in the Boston Harbor Hotel (baby sister of Meritage, I think), but the fish choices may not be as extensive as we are looking for, and I'm worried about the poss. antiseptic atmosphere of a hotel resto.

Could do Barking Crab of course, but the idea is to go a little fancier than that, not as fancy as Great Bay.

Should we just give up the waterfront idea and go to East Coast Grill, or is Cafe Intrigue worth trying?

THANKS...and I promise I will never ask such a newbie question again!!
