During my trip to Houston, I decided to take my gurlfren to Ocean Palace, after some research on the board. I know Kim Son (Southwest Frwy location) currently holds the unoffical Dim Sum crown in Houston, but it was just too out of the way for our excursion. I hoped that Ocean Palace would be a close second. As some background, I am by no means a Dim Sum expert. I am from Los Angeles and I usually eat in Chinatown or in Garden Grove (Little Saigon) when I get dim sum.
I went with the basics....
Fried taro balls (ones with pork and others with shrimp)
the siu mai and hargow were good and consistent with my previous dim sum experiences. the chicken feet seemed a little sweeter than i am used to, perhaps due to the bbq sauce used. the wonton soup was lackluster (wonton were lifeless) and the greens were rather cool (due to sitting out at the station where you picked them up).
i did enjoy the taro balls, those were very good and the both varieties were delicious.
tab before tax and tip came to about 30 bucks, which was a little steep for two people in my opinion. i thought it was a fair dining experience overall, but a good introduction to dim sum for my gurlfren.
