Where To Go In OC For Mrs. Chino Wayne's Birthday?

Chino Wayne | May 19, 2002 05:51 PM

Need some tips 'hounds. It is the Mrs. birthday on Thursday. I am making a run to Newport Beach to verify Russkar's bonafides in certain gustatory matters, so might bring the Mrs. along. Or the Mrs. may elect to have the Daughter of the Chino Wayne's take her to Disneyland.

So what I need to know is if the Mrs. accompanies me to Newport Beach, and it is just the two of us for an intimate dinner where to dine?

Of if I joint the Mrs. and the young chowette (relatively speaking) in Anaheim, where to dine?

Now to the challenging part. If you have followed the exploits of the Chino Waynes' on their road trips, you will understand the heavy burden I carry in trying to appease the very simple, pedestrian tastes of the Mrs. while still seeking deliciousness. So the ground rules for any and all recommendations are:

-The Mrs. loves lobster, and would order that over anything else, anytime.

-The Mrs. likes Mexican food, but to her a good Mexican dinner is a numbered combination plate.

-The Mrs. likes Italian food, the kind that comes in a thin, thin crust pie, or in a large, boat shaped vessel from the oven, oozing with cheese.

-The Mrs. likes Chinese, but if true to form will not consider it festive enough for her birthday and/or just will not be in the mood. (We have dined at Wang's in Monrovia, probably 50 times, and every single time she has required that we order the Orange Flavor Chicken (which Wang's does quite well) and the Yang Chow Fried Rice, and is happy with those dishes, and will also eat the Shezewan Green Beans, and Moo Shu Pork, but will not eat the wonderful molten, garlicky Shezewan Egg Plant - just to give you an idea of her tastes.)

If at the coastal areas, something overlooking the water, as long as the food is good, will work for the Mrs., especially if I can get her a nice large Lobster Tail.

If I meet her over at Disney, I was thinking, hoping, that maybe something at Downtown Disney would be suitable, both for the Mrs. and to hopefully satisfy my craving for deliciousness.

So OC-centric 'hounds, please help a fellow 'hound out with the wisdom of your knowledge and experience.

However, if you can't come through for me, I got a back-up plan: a run out to Palm Desert and steak for me and Lobster for the Mrs. at Morton's. So let's hear it, you got something better than Morton's that the Mrs. will thoroughly enjoy?
