Oakland Chowlunch #11 Report: Yo Ho (ho...) Dim Sum

An even dozen of us descended on Yo Ho, a popular dim sum joint next door to Joy Luck. One of our early chowlunches was here, and comparisons were made throughout the meal.

Amazingly enough, nobody yelled "Arrrr" during the meal. Between the looming National Talk Like a Pirate day and the name of the restaurant, I was sure... ah, well.

Here is, hopefully, a somewhat comprehensive and not too terribly inaccurate list of what all we had, in somewhat chronological order:

- sui mai
- shark fin
- chive and shrimp dumplings (boiled?)
- taro puffs
- stuffed green pepper wedges
- stuffed mushrooms
- XO rice noodles
- stuffed tofu
- beef balls
- chicken feet
- har gao
- turnip cake
- pan-fried chive dumplings
- fried glutenous rice balls (?)
- tofu skin rolls
- sticky rice in lotus leaf
- pork steamed dumplings
- coffee/coconut gelatin
- black sesame filled things

Yimster also kindly provided two other dessert treats: a white lotus cake from Ruby King, and a red lotus cake from Napoleon in SF.

Most of the nineteen items we got three orders of, so everyone had one, with one or two exceptions at the beginning, and a couple extra orders at the end for our latecomer.

The bill was obscenely low at $87 (pre-tip) for the twelve of us, working out to less than $0.50 per item per person.

The next Oakland chowlunch will probably be Thai food at Sabuy Sabuy Jr next Thursday (right off BART), although many managed to sneak out before I dropped the idea on folks. I'll coordinate the reservations and a few intro dishes, but probably we'll decide as a group on many dishes -- so come early! There will be an evite in the next day or two.
