NYC diner written about by Calvin Trillin in the NYer

Dear NY Hounds -

Some months ago, Calvin Trillin wrote a splendid piece in the NYer about a diner in NYC the proprietors of which were described as gruff; to the point of not allowing customers to order what they wanted and physically removing cell-phone users. I may exaggerate but there it is. I seem to recall that the place was being threatened w/ closure.

The food was described in great detail and sounded very tasty, so I'd like to pay a visit, but I cannot remember the name or location of the place.

Does this ring a bell w/ anyone? If so, what's the name of the place and where is it?

Many thanks -
