NY Chowhound in Chicago for 2 days - recs for best cheap eats?

I've never been to Chicago before, and neither has my boyfriend so doing research online is quite daunting as we don't know where anything is. We'll be attending a concert in February (cold!!) and wanted to know what are your favorite cheap or moderately cheap places that offer a unique dining experience. We enjoy fine dining too and we're probably going to eat at Tru (big fan of Gale Gand) but that's probably going to be our priciest meal there. Mostly looking for places that we can't get in NYC, and are a must try. What are your favorite places that you would recommend? We do not want touristy places (although we understand that some of your best places would have many toutists, like Pizzeria Due).

Any types of ethnic food is great although we want something other than new american or steak. We enjoy cheap hole-in-the wall places as well as sit-down places. We love all sorts of food but especially love German, Tapas, Vietnamese, and Japanese-fusion. Any recs?

BTW, anyone have a rec on a good hotel/area to stay? I have a coupon for the Wyndham Chicago but will be wiling to stay elsewhere if it means more accessible to good eats!!
