Nutcracker Creperie/bakery in Newburyport

This is a new place in the Tannery, back where the old Nutcracker Bakery used to be. The new owners are French, and have remodeled and expanded the place. Now when you walk down the stairs, there's a big very comfortable room with polished wood, exposed brick, and banquettes. They have pastries, cakes (whole or by the slice), tarts, and after 11 am make both savory and dessert crepes. An almond brioche (strangely shapped like a croissant) was $2.10, and pretty good with real almond paste in the center. One of the cakes in the display case was the first Princess cake I'd seen since Maison Robert! They also have espresso, coffee, and Mighty Leaf tea ($1.75 for a large cup.) We had a roasted vegetable crepe (very nice vegetables, wish we had asked for cheese on it) for $7.00, and a chocolate crepe (wish we had asked for whipped cream!) was $4.00 - which is just about what they cost from street vendors in France. Right now they are open until 5:30, will stay open later when they hire an evening shift. The counter was covred with samples of cookies, crepes, baklava.....

Ok, the taste of passion fruit mousse I had wasn't so great, but hey-they just opened. This is such a comfortable space to get lunch, or just a nice bite of something. It's what Finales should be, but isn't.
