Two Nights This Weekend in DC - Any Advice?

George Lynch | Mar 2, 2006 12:50 AM

We are staying at the Willard Intercontinental in downtown DC. Friday and Saturday nights. Don't know Washington much at all (it's been years)...

My wife made a dinner reservation for Saturday at Old Ebbitt Grill. Is this a good choice?

Anywhere else relatively local for Friday night (or Saturday if Old Ebbitt is the wrong place)? We're not going to have a car, so it's either the subway or hoofing it. Best would be someplace where it wouldn't be a challenge to get back to the hotel afterward.

Some info about us: we are New Yorkers and veterans of the NYC restaurant scene, enjoy a well-made iced martini as well as good wine with dinner. Atmosphere is important; neither of us likes tight seating where you are elbow-to-elbow with your neighbor.

Not particular about cuisine except we don't usually eat Thai (my wife has a slight allergy to some of their spices). We enjoy a pretty eclectic mix of places: sports bars, pubs, steakhouses, seafood restaurants, Italian, American, etc...

Any and all advice greatly appreciated.
