went on sat for dim sum with guests from out of town. large variety and very, very fresh--i found the food to be tastier and more interesting by a mile than phoenix garden. moreover, the atmosphere/service was much less assemblyline-esque AND we didn't have to wait at all.
best thing: the four of us ate for a grand total of $25!
on an unrelated note, we took these same guests (my b'friend's parents) to bouley for price-fixe lunch earlier in the week. it goes without saying that the $35 menu is a steal; the updated room is lovely, but i do miss the bakery. i would do it again, but i will say that some of the courses just didn't hit that high note. the amuse bouche and the first course of scallop and phyllo shrimp were wonderful. i had the halibut, which was strictly average, followed by the chicken and mashed butter i mean potatoes which was nice. then the deluge of desserts...which i cannot be mad about...i do think it's a great value and fun fine dining experience for out of towners and special occassions alike (went with some girlfriends for graduation a little while back and had pretty much the same experience--the last time the service was off; this time it was a bit brusque, but not enough to get mad about!)
now something to be mad about is jojo. i'm wondering--has anyone had a good experience there (besides teh ny times reviewer).
