Nice family dinner on new year's eve

We are expats currently living in Tokyo (not Americans) and we will be in NY over new years. We would like to dine out with our kids, age 17, 16 and 9. All have travelled the world extensively (albeit hardly ever to the US) have good manners and always hold their forks correctly (under threat of death by me...).Their tastes are quite broad ranging.
However, they are normal kids and so, not always perfectly well behaved.
After a little research, I have decided to avoid Times Square like the plague!
We would like a place with great food that is not too kiddy/teenage (we will do that on other days), but not too stuffy. Price is not an issue (within reason).
All advice gratefully and respectfully considered.
Oh! No Japanese restaurants please!
